Is there a way to force Excel to stop calculating a formula?
Excel showing "Not Responding" and is grayed out. I've tried to use Task Manager to stop the application, but as soon as open up Excel it goes right back to opening the spreadsheets and starts calculating again. I have spreadsheets saved, so don't have to recover.

How can I calculate a 3% anual rent increase over 15 years (3% over the last year's rent)?

Is there a way to calculate the average days between a column of dates?

Basically, I've got a sheet that contains a table of entries, and each entry gets a date stamp in the first column. I would like to have the sheet display the average time, in days, between entries. Is this possible?

Thank you in advance!

I am trying to work out how to calculate the geometric mean of a series of values, some of which are negative, ie. investment returns over a series of years with some negatives.

The Geomean function doesn't work because it only uses positive numbers.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi all,

I hope you can help me with what I would like to do. I've searched and searched and not come up with anything yet!!

I have one sheet which is my 'data' sheet with a number of columns, one of which is a date which may be repeated.

I then want to use another sheet with two cells where two dates can be entered and a button which allows you to copy the rows of data from the data sheet which have dates between the two specified originally. The list in the data sheet may not be in date order although I could update a macro to do this for me if needed. I would also like to do it so that if "ALL" is typed in the date fields, it pulls over ALL the data. (Or something similar)

Any help you can give would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Kevin

I need a formula to calculate overtime, after a work week of 40 hours.

for example: if an employee works 10 hours a day we would not count towards overtime until the employee completes a 40 hour work week.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

Thanks,
YV

Great tip! But one thing: On my machine (Excel 2008 Mac), the values in the formula cell are not correctly calculated simply by dragging. Instead, the values are equal to the cell above (the first entry formula value). To get the correct value, I need to click in the formula bar and then hit enter. (I only discovered this after an hour of tinkering, figuring I had botched the formula!)

Are there any ways around this so that it updates upon dragging the formula?

I am trying to calculate time based off a non-conventional quarter hour time system

example;
8:00 to 8:07 = 8.0 hrs
8:08 to 8:23 = 8.25 hrs
8:24 to 8:38 = 8.5 hrs
8:39 to 8:53 = 8.75 hrs
8:53 to 8:59 = 9.0 hrs

I am having trouble writing an equation that would sum the clock-in and clock-out times (2 per day) and display the total time in these quarter hours and adding an additional hour if it is >= to *:53. Any help would be great.

Hello from sunny Madrid

I have created a complex formula to help me calculating Golf handicaps for players.

The formula is in the first cell and I want to drag the formula across to the right to cover the 18 holes.

But ALL the values change and I want some to change and some to stay constant.

How do I tell excel to drag the formula across but keep certain parts of the formula the same..ie ....=D11.... in the formula when dragged across doesn't go D12,D13;D14 in each cells formula and should stay as D11 for all.

Many thanks for your help

Ole

I have a spreadsheet with simple (addition/subtraction) formulas. The file is quite large and the formulas are too. All of a sudden, the formulas stopped working except when I double click in the cell containing the actual formula. For example, if I enter "2" in each cell, A2 and B2, cell B3 should reflect "4" because there is a formula in cell B3 which totals cells A2 and B2. Only by double clicking on cell B3 will the program actually calculate. I'm totally perplexed and so is my IT contact. Anyone?

Hi there

I am trying to calculate our On Time Delivery. I want this as a simple percentage of jobs. I have got this running in the following way:

Column M - Estimated Delivery dates
Column N - Actual Delivery dates
Column O - =IF(SUM(M2-N2)>0,1,0)

Then I have calculated On Time Delivery as: =SUM((SUM(O2:O252))/(COUNTA(N2:N252)))

This seems to work fine. My problem is, if we enter a date in Estimated without a corresponding Actual date, the formula for Column O fills out anyway and improves our On Time Delivery Percentage. How can I set this up so that the formula doesn't calculate if there is no data in Column N?

Any help much appreciated

Thanks,

James

I'm trying to format a worksheet to show how many days overdue certain tasks are, and running into a couple of issues. The sheet is set up with Due Dates in Column A, Days Overdue in Column B, and Date Completed in Column C. My first thought was just to use as simple a formula as possible in Column B =Today()-A2. This worked alright for tasks that already had Due Dates assigned, but if Column A was blank I'd get a high number in Column B. I also realized that tasks will continue to show as overdue even after I enter the completed-on date in Column C. Is there a relatively simple way to tackle this formula? Thanks in advance for suggestions. (I've attached an example with the column headings I want to use.)

Sale = A1
Cost = B1
Margin = C1

I know to calculate Margin its' C1=1-(B1/A1) and to calculate Sale its, A1=B1/(1-C1), and I can do that in separate columns. But...... I'm tasked with trying to find a way so that I can do it in three columns. As in if I change cost then margin recalculates or if I change margin then sale recalculates. I'm thinking that this is going to cause a circular error but my boss says there's got to be a way to do it, figure it out. Any suggestions?

Alex

On my calculator, if I divide 462,534.05 by 335 I get 1,380.70. Then if I times 1,380.70 by 335 I get 462,534.50. Which is what I need it to be because I need to calculate the difference of a figure not dividing equally.

On excel, if I divide 462,534.05 by 335 I get 1,380.70. Then if I times 1,380.70 by 335 I get the SAME result of 462,534.05.

I have to account for the difference of not dividing equally so there is some format or accounting function that's preset that I don't want but I have no idea how to fix it or format my excel sheet to calculate as my calculator would.

Please can someone help? Thanks!

I am trying to calculate the average Talk Time into Minutes and Seconds. Every time I have tried, I get the wrong average.

For example, if I have a total of 53 calls and the total talk time is 4:19:05, what would the average talk per call be? I tried doing everything in seconds (this would give me a total of 15545 seconds) but the total I was getting is 4:89.

What would the formula be to get the correct average time?

I have a spreadsheet where I need to calculate the increase in % one year over the other in column D for Eg if Profits are 95415 in Jan 2008 (Column B) and 80215 in Jan 2008 (Column C), then the % Increase will be (95415-80215)/80215 *100

I can calculate the formula for this , but the problem comes where for eg there is a loss in Jan 2008 for -95415 and there was a profit in Jan 2007 for 80215. How do I set up formula to take negatives & positives into account in calculating the increase or decrease/

Your assistance or anybody's on the forum will be greatly appreciated

Regards

Howard

Hello,

Please help!!!
We have a client who will pay using the 1/4, 1/2/ and 3/4 of an hour increments as follows:

From the hour mark to 6 minutes = 0 time paid
Over 7 minutes to 15 minutes = 1/4 hour 15
16 minutes to 30 minutes = 1/2 hour 30
30 minutes to 45 minutes = 3/4 hour 45
46 minutes to 60 minutes = one hour.

They work on shifts and the operation is 24 hours. Each gets 30 minutes for breaks which is not paid. Pay is biweekly and overtime is anything over 40 hours. Currently, the template we are using looks like this (sorry, I could not figure out how to paste it so you can see it in Excel layout):
WEEK 1 Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday

I am very new to Excel and need help creating a formula that will allow us to calculate this timesheet? I am in desperate need for help.

Thanks..

Since there isn't a ISDATE function in excel.

The following can be used to simulate the same, and avoid having to achieve the same with VBA's IsDate function:

STEPS:
1- Format the column (ex A) as text

2- Formula to check for valid dates:
=ISERROR(DATEVALUE(A1))
